Jacob Eckhardt
Jacob Eckhardt (2001, Brussels) is a sound artist based in The Hague whose work deals with turntablism as a discipline deeply entwined with the materiality of its instrument – the turntable. Equally interested in ‘traditional’ turntablist cultures, he is inspired by and draws on the (somewhat) recent resurgence of turntable music(s) within the experimental music discourse. A large part of his musical practice is centred around the materiality of sound replicating technologies, as he utilises instrument preparations to investigate how acts of sampling can be guided by the medium-specific (and thus material) malleability of physical media containers – in this case specifically the turntable. Jacob is currently studying at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague.
Kieran Daly
Kieran Daly is an American composer and guitarist with a concentration in experimental monophonic music. His work focuses on a ‘skeptical, first-principles approach applied across multifarious formal contexts using iterative processes, microtuning and sliding, and pulse salience as morphological determinants’.
His background in jazz, improvised music, composition, guitar playing and analog & digital signal processing all contribute to his sharp, wry and odd approach to sound making, resulting in a humbly radical musical output. As can be read in some of Kieran’s album titles, as well as in his liner notes and on track titles such as – ‘An Honk Concert of All-Pass Filter, Comparator, Dynamic Compressor, Four-Quadrant Multiplier, Integrators, Slew Limiters’, ‘Ascending and Descending Glissandi and then Unpitched Sixteenth-Note Tremelo +-162 Bpm’ – the direct transparency of techniques, choices, and the referred compositional ideas adds to the somewhat austerely absurd quality of his music.
As a part of his first European tour, Kieran will be presenting a performance with ‘music for unaccompanied guitar’.
Notable works from his prolific output include his compositions for midi chamber orchestration – ‘Untitled’ (Madacy Jazz, 2018) and ‘Wind Quintet I-IV, Solo’ (Madacy Jazz, 2024); the guitar and saxophone improvisations with a frequent collaborator of Kieran, Sam Weinberg, on ‘Four Improvisations’ (Madacy Jazz, 2024); equally memorable releases that explore composition, signal processing and his guitar playing include ‘Total Orderings for FLEA’ (Flea, 2022), ‘On adaptive nonlinear stretching, stick-slip, and squeezing composition’ (Madacy Jazz, 2023), ‘One- and two-channel electroacoustic pieces’ (Madacy Jazz, 2023), ‘Four Slow-Fast Solos via Studio’ (Madacy Jazz, 2023), and ‘KIERAN IN A HOLE’ (hibari music, 2017). Recently, Kieran has been recording new pieces for ‘vocalising guitarist’, as can be heard on ‘SYLVESTER ARIAS PLUS TWO’ (tokinogake, 2024) and ‘PP-13: Two pieces for fixed media pitched instruments voice zero build’ (Party Perfect!!!, 2024).
